Today Katie and I took Derek to the doctor today for a checkup and everything went well. He now weighs 10lbs 4 oz and grew an inch. The doctor said his reflexes are superb and his senses are developing perfectly. He does have infant acne which the doctor described as some clogged pores but he gave us a cream to help. Derek was very cheerful the entire time but next month might be a little different, he will be getting two or three shots! Ouch!
Update: I forgot to add that Katie is wearing her regular jeans. Yea Katie!!!! |

Yes, we are almost at the end of this pregnancy! Sorry there haven’t been pictures for a while, but we have been very busy working on getting the house finished so that Tim and I can enjoy the baby when he/she arrives. The pregnancy has been going VERY well!! I will miss the feeling of carrying a baby, I love being pregnant! I have not had any problems this far (knock on wood). The baby is very active and kicks on the right side all the time! I have been going to see the doctor every week now for a couple of weeks. The baby had not dropped at all until this week. Tim went with me to the doctor last week and was in heaven because he liked Dr. Gurski. He said she is the “hot” doctor and he hopes she delivers the baby. This week, we found out, from the midwife at my doctor’s office, that the baby is about 7 ½ pounds and probably pretty long. She said that I lost two pounds, which is normal, and my 26 pounds of weight gain seems to be all baby! The baby has dropped a little bit, but still has a little way to go. My cervix is half way effaced, but not dilated at all yet. The midwife thinks it will all happen at once.
Our wonderful families and my great staff at work had baby showers for us. Becky even held a shower from my students for us! We think we have everything we need for this little bundle of joy, so for now we just wait until the baby is ready to make its grand appearance!!! We will make sure to keep everyone updated on the baby’s progress! |

This pic is 33 weeks. Sorry we missed 32 weeks, but we have been very busy with the house. Well, only 7 weeks to go!! When I was at the doctor last week, I am up to 20 total pounds and everything looks great! The doctor said 25-35 pounds is a healthy weight for total pregnancy. I guess I am ok eating ice cream at night!! I am measuring exactly 32 weeks growth which is right on target. According to the Chinese birth calendar, it is projected that the baby is a boy. We will have to wait and see! |

We are going to start taking “belly” pictures every week (hopefully). As my pregnancy progresses, the last couple months will show the most growth. We decided that now would be the best time to take bare belly pictures, we hope we don’t scare anyone!! The 30 weeks pic is in the pink pants and 31 weeks in the black pants. So far, everything has been progressing nicely and I have been healthy, only gaining 16 lbs. When I went to my bi-weekly check up on Monday, the doctor said that she "thought" the baby was breech at the moment and that is why I have been feeling sharp stretching on my right side, probably a hand or an arm.

This picture was taken at the end of my 6th month. We are now well into the 7th month, 30 weeks to be exact. I am in my third trimester and on the home stretch! I have noticed that my appetite increased in the second trimester, but now has slowed down. I still love desserts!!! My belly button has not “popped” yet, I have a REAL innie, so I don’t think it will.
We have been working on our new home, which is why we have not blogged in a little while. SORRY!! This past week was really hot and the heat finally bothered me. I was really tired and had to rest a lot. We are in the process of getting the rooms ready to paint. We are going to wallpaper the baby’s room with yellow and white stripes to match the bedding. Grammy Macrina is the professional wallpaper hanger, so she will be doing most of that! Tim and Grammy Auman are going to be the painters. I am the supervisor!! We took pictures of the “work in progress” and Tim will post them soon. After everything is finished we will post the completed project pictures, but don’t look for them too soon because it is going to take awhile!! |

As you can tell from the picture, the baby is growing quickly, and so is my figure!!! We are at the end of 5 months and starting our 6th month.
I guess there is only more growth ahead! We have been busy with baby details this month, we finally finished our registry (thanks Jen!), we picked bedding which was a tough job, and we are just finishing details on the nursery furniture.
We are registered at Babies R Us and Target. Unfortunately we had to register at both stores because Babies R Us did not have the bedding we wanted to buy. Tim liked the little ducky bedding at Target because he wants to make sure the nursery is ready when we come home from the hospital and he didn't want it to be boring yellow. We are going to paint yellow and white stripes on the top of the walls because the bedding has yellow and white stripes as accents. We decided to pick a neutral bedding because it will be less stressful for everyone!
Since we are starting month 6, Tim has been able to feel the little kicks and pokes that I have been feeling for a while. I can't believe how crazy it is that the baby can be felt on the outside. The most active times are morning, late night, and after I eat meals. Now Tim wants to feel the baby movement all the time, but is afraid that if we put too much pressure on my belly that the baby will get hurt. He says that he doesn't want our baby to come out all black and blue.
More to come as we grow in the 6th month!!

Today Katie and I went for Katie's ultrasound. Here are a few of the pictures that the technician gave us. It was amazing to see the the baby moving and its features as they are developing. We chose not find out if our baby is a boy or girl but the tech said it was very apparent what sex it was so my guess is that it is a boy!! Haha, had to put that in; watch it backfire on me and we will have a girl. I'm sure Katie will blog and elaborate more on the details.

Our baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces, and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the length of a small zucchini. His/her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of its body now. The kidneys continue to make urine, and the hair on the scalp is sprouting. This is a crucial time for sensory development: Our baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch.
We will have an ultrasound on June 9th!!! We will scan the pics onto the website for everyone to see! |

Our baby weighs about 5 ounces now, and is around 5 inches long — about the size of a large onion. He/She can move it’s joints, and it’s skeleton — until now rubbery cartilage — is starting to harden to bone. His/Her sense of hearing is also developing. The umbilical cord, the lifeline to the placenta, is growing stronger and thicker. |

Ok, mine might be larger, fatter, whatever you want to call it but not for long. Why? Because Katie is pregnant. Yup she is carrying a baby technonerd. Shes almost 7 weeks pregnant. Of course I am hoping for a boy but everyone else including Kate is hoping for a girl. Either way we will both be happy. I'll be creating a site just for the pregnancy/baby which will be located at http://www.BabyMacrina.com so keep an eye out over the next few weeks! |
